Niveria pediculus
(Linnaeus, 1758)
Description:
A small oval shell with a central slit-like opening along the underside. A central groove along the upper side, opposite the opening, and ribs from this groove toward the opening. Along the groove are three dark spots on either side. The mantle of the living animal may be folded over the shell, thus obscuring it. The color of the living animal is red to yellow.
Size: usually up to 3 cm.
Habitat:
Around reefs and under rocks.
Depth: ranges from 0 m down to 25 m.
Distribution:
Common all over the Caribbean.
Remarks:
In most countries it is illegal to bring back these shells from holidays.
