Description:
Body long and cylindrical with two dorsal fins. Body yellow-gold to translucent, with iridescent blue markings on the snout and upper part of the eye, alternating yellow and narrow blue lines extending posteriorly from the eye onto the anterior body (C. lipernes). Second spine of spinous dorsal fin of males noticeably longer than the other spines.
Size up to 3 cm.
Habitat:
Lives in coral heads in fairly deep water, down to 13 m. Usually solitary, but sometimes swims close to the reef in small groups. Often perch on coral heads.
Distribution:
Common to uncommon Florida Keys and Caribbean; not reported Bahamas.
