Devil's sea whip

Description:
Unbranched, flagelliform colonies reaching a size up to 2.4 meter. Stalks taper slightly from the base to the tip. Calyces upturned, prominent, biserial or in multiple lateral bands.
Color:
Stem and calices orange-red to red; polyps white.
Habitat:
Inhabit deep, clear water environments, especially on steep slopes and walls. Attached to rocky substrates.
Distribution:
Common to occasional Florida, Bahamas and Caribbean.
