Spotted snake eel
Ophichthus ophis

Description:
Body thin and snake-like. The color varies from white to gray, cream or tan, often with a yellowish cast. Top of the head with a broad, dark bar, that may extend down onto the cheeks. Head and body with dark spots.
Size up to 2.0 m.
Habitat:
Inhabit sand flats and areas of mixed sand, gravel and coral rubble, often extend only their heads (O. ophis). Down to 50 m.
Distribution:
Uncommon to rare Florida, Bahamas and Caribbean; also Bermuda and south to Brazil.
