Description:
Body long and thin, with a long tail filament. Body brownish above, lighter below, with a series of pale blue spots from the head to the dorsal fin on the midline of the back, a row of blue spots lateral to the mid-dorsal row, and two lateral rows of blue spots on the snout (F. tabacaria).
Size up to 2 m, including the tail filament.

Habitat:
A solitary species occurring over seagrass flats and reefs, also over hard and rocky bottoms. Feeds on fish, small crustaceans and other invertebrates.

Distribution:
Uncommon Florida, Bahamas and northern Caribbean, occasional southern Caribbean.
