Description:
Fish with a basic, 'fish-like' shape, with a sloping head with a relatively large mouth, a tapering body and a notched tail. Body with yellow stripes on a white to bluish or yellowish silver background. Stripes below the lateral line are set on a diagonal; stripes above the lateral line are horizontal. Fins yellow.
Size up to 30 cm.

Habitat:
Prefer shallow parts of coral reefs, down to depths of 60 meters. Occur in small to large schools that may number in the thousands.

Distribution:
Common Florida, Bahamas and Caribbean; also south to Brazil.
