Description:
Upright, somewhat ramose masses with oscules on elevations, or sprawling clumps of vulcano-shaped oscular tubes. Up to 15 cm long or more and 5 cm in diameter. Oscules 1-5 mm in diameter. Consistency compressible, rather soft; slimy.

Color:
Pale purplish-pink or dirty-pink. Tissue inside more reddish (D. anchorata-close up).

Habitat:
Common in bays and lagoons on mangrove roots and stones. On reefs especially on the reef flat on coral rubble and in the deeper parts.

Distribution:
Common in the Caribbean.
